place is bustling with activity as the CBS Giant Orchestra is on hand. The
orchestra consists of:

In addition, tonight we have:

10 horns (3 trumpets; 2 trombones; 1 bass trombone; 4 saxophones)

1 percussionist ------ a total of 42, for a grand total of 50 in the CBS
Giant Orchestra. |
With little time to prepare, Paul did a magnificent job in putting all
these pieces together resulting in a magical Late Show evening.
So with the CBS Giant Orchestra as our backdrop, it's time to open up
the CBS Mailbag.

CBS MAILBAG:
LETTER #1 - From
Helmut
Schonwalder of
Monterey, California - "Dear David, Is it really true that you are a lousy
tipper?"
Dave denies the claim, stating that when people take good care of him, he
takes good care of them. Like what happened last weekend . . . Dave rubs
his chin which is the universal sign for a gliss to a Dave memory. We see
Dave in a restaurant paying his bill. Dining alone, Dave pays the tab and
offers the waiter a $100 bill for himself. The waiter pockets the cash,
and then points off-camera to a shattered chandelier that Dave had
presumably broke. With a quick hem followed by a haw, Dave sheepishly
informs the waiter that that is all the money he has. Dave then jumps from
his seat and darts off like a lynx. We fade back to LIVE Dave as we enjoy
the taped gliss music.

Before we begin the next letter, Dave wonders aloud that why when we
have the CBS Giant Orchestra on hand do we have to listen to the taped
gliss music. Why not use the LIVE harps? Dave makes some small talk to the
nearby harpist, Gloria. After
brief instructions as to when she'll be cued to harp, Dave quickly scans
the next 3 letters. Sadly, Dave finds there are no more scheduled glisses.
Not to be denied, Dave decides that each of the next 3 letters will be
accompanied by the playing of Gloria the harpist. |
