through Monterey's non-bloody past...
During the Spanish American wars of
independence de Bouchard a Frenchman commanding an Argentinean privateer
captured and ransacked Monterey in 1818.
De Bouchard left after getting what he came
for. He continued with his attacks at several ports on his way down the coast.
